For those of us who have been to Haiti we are aware that before the devistation of the Earthquake...now a week ago...the infrastructure of Haiti was clearly in need of work. Frankly, like many of our member nations, Haiti is not at the top of the economic ladder...in fact it is among the poorest nations in the Western Hemisphere.

Earth Quake hits Haiti

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — The largest earthquake ever recorded in the area rocked Haiti on Tuesday, collapsing a hospital where people screamed for help and damaging other buildings. An aid official described "total disaster and chaos."

People 'Eager To Join Fire Service'

The Barbados Fire Service may be experiencing a manpower drain but it is flooded with applications from people eager to join the service.

Acting Chief Fire Officer Randolph Cox told the DAILY NATION that it was proving to be a challenge to respond to the many applications which they receive almost on a daily basis.
